## *Preparing Human-Centered Leaders for an AI-Enabled Innovation Economy*

 

### **AI & Design Thinking for Early Career Readiness**

The AI x Design Thinking – Early Career Industry-Recognized Credential (IRC) prepares youth ages 14–24 with employer-validated skills to succeed in a rapidly evolving, AI-enabled world of work. Developed by IDEO U in collaboration with Dent Education, this credential blends human-centered design and responsible AI fluency to build adaptive, future-ready problem-solvers.

Credential earners apply these skills to real-world challenges. Programs aligned to this credential emphasize hands-on learning, requiring learners to use design thinking and AI as complementary tools to navigate complexity, uncover insights, and develop practical solutions.

To earn the credential, candidates must:

- Launch a real-world project
- Pass a competency-based exam
- Complete employer-reviewed interview-style reflections
- Submit a portfolio evaluated by innovation employers

This multi-layered assessment signals to employers that credential earners have demonstrated industry-standard capabilities in:

- Human-centered problem framing
- Creative and iterative solution development
- Professional communication and presentation
- Responsible and effective use of AI

Through this experience, credential seekers build creative confidence, develop innovative mindsets, and gain applied experience that prepares them for emerging careers across technology, business, and social impact.

### **Credential Program Outcomes**

Participants will:

- Conduct observation and interviews to deeply understand user needs
- Generate stronger ideas using IDEO’s human-centered and AI-assisted ideation methods
- Build and test prototypes early to reduce risk and increase impact
- Integrate AI into creative and analytical workflows
- Apply prompt engineering best practices to achieve high-quality generative results
- Develop responsible AI mindsets grounded in collaboration, ethics, and human judgment
- Produce tangible deliverables such as insights reports and product or service prototypes
- Synthesize their work through professional presentations and employer-style reflections

[Dent Education](https://denteducation.org/) is a Baltimore-based nonprofit youth innovation hub where young people ages 14–24 build entrepreneurial mindsets, social capital, and careers in innovation. Through supportive, hands-on programs, youth apply 21st-century skills such as UX design, AI tools, content creation, and rapid prototyping to launch ventures, collaborate with employers, and grow as tomorrow’s designers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and technologists.
